How Everything Started at Polar Horizon

Our story began on the icy shores of Antarctica, where two very different paths converged in an unexpected yet deeply meaningful way. Daisy was a curious traveler, drawn to the untouched beauty of the polar regions, and Sara was a seasoned senior polar expedition guide, expertly navigating the frozen landscapes that had long been her second home.

Our first interaction took place during a zodiac excursion, where Sara was at the helm, steering through Antarctica’s pristine waters. As we cruised among icebergs and wildlife, Daisy found herself naturally assisting other Chinese travelers, interpreting the fascinating insights Sara was sharing.

That moment sparked a conversation between us, one that would ultimately change the course of both our lives.

During the voyage, Daisy confided in Sara about a dream that had taken root in her mind: she wanted to understand what it took to become part of an expedition team, to train and prepare for life in the polar regions.  More than just an adventure, Daisy saw Antarctica as a place of immense educational value, a classroom like no other, where geography, climate science, and humanity’s connection to nature all come together in a way that no textbook can fully capture.

As we talked, we discovered a surprising alignment in our perspectives. Beyond our shared love for the polar regions, we saw the same profound meaning in them, the way they force humans to reflect on our relationship with the Planet, our responsibilities, and the bigger picture of our place in the world. Our conversation deepened, touching on education, sustainability, and how we could inspire others, especially young minds, to engage with these extraordinary places in a meaningful way.

When the voyage came to an end, this candid photo captured our heartfelt goodbye as we parted ways—Sara heading back to Bern, where she resides while working in polar expeditions during the seasons, and Daisy returning to her home city of Shenzhen. Although the journey was over, the spark of inspiration we had ignited did not fade.

What started as a conversation on a zodiac boat evolved into regular video calls across time zones, long hours of research, and deep discussions. This initial connection grew into a shared vision. With every meeting, our belief in our mission solidified. We were no longer just two individuals passionate about the polar regions—we were building something bigger.

From this dedication, Polar Horizon was born: a vision that bridges education and exploration, connecting students, families, and future leaders with the transformative power of the Arctic and Antarctic.

Today, Polar Horizon is a platform for discovery, a space where learning transcends borders, and where young minds can witness firsthand how the polar regions shape our planet and our future.
