Our Biography

Sara-Catella

Sara Catella

I was born and raised in Italy and my passion for traveling and for wild nature started when I was just a kid, with my love for geography.

I was lucky to be born in a family where my father was often traveling around the world, this has shaped my curiosity for new places and new cultures and to consider it as an opportunity to grow.

I graduated in Business Administration and Public Relations and I worked for several years  for engineering companies. This job allowed me to travel the world, live in foreign countries and master five languages.

But my real passion has always been for nature and remote places, and I was lucky enough to be able to travel all over the world and discover the  immense beauty of our planet.

That’s why after a career in the engineering world, I decided to completely change my path and turn my passions into a job.

If there’s one place on earth I’m in love with and I’m very passionate about this is Antarctica and the Arctic, the most incredible places I ever visited, but also an important field for studying the climate change.

I deepen, during the years, my knowledge with several university’s courses about polar regions, oceanography, biology and eventually climatology and polar geoengineering, and today I’m a polar expedition guide in Antarctica and the Arctic and a lecturer about climate change in those areas and the interconnectedness of global climate systems and climate communicator.

After several years of experiences in polar regions I came to a conclusion that education is a key to fight climate change, that going beyond borders and cultures and working together for a better planet is the way to go.

With Polar Horizon my vision for the future is to create a movement of people that believe in working together for a common goal and willing to find solutions  for our planet while being a tool for global environmental stewardship.

Polar regions are not only a breathtaking place to visit, but a place that inspire us to take the responsabilty as human beings to protect our home, our planet.

With Polar Horizon I aim to inspire people through education, exploration, and actions using polar regions and the interconnectiveness with our world as reference point for a better relationship between humans and nature.

Born and raised in Shenzhen, a city renowned for its entrepreneurial spirit, green environment, and cutting-edge advancements in sustainability and technology, I grew up in an atmosphere of innovation and inclusivity. These values have profoundly shaped my journey and vision for Polar Horizon.

My exploration of the polar regions began with personal curiosity, a deep-seated fascination with the untouched beauty and profound significance of these remote environments. This curiosity became a life-changing journey when I visited Antarctica for the first time as a tourist. As the ship sailed away from those breathtaking icy landscapes, I was overcome with awe and a singular thought: how could I make this extraordinary place part of my life?

The journey home was one of deep reflection. I realized the profound significance of my experience—not just as a traveler, but as someone who could contribute to connecting people with these fragile ecosystems. That moment sparked a determination in me to become a qualified polar expedition guide and devote myself fully to the polar regions.

At the very beginning, using my spare time, I poured my dedication into long hours of learning and practice, acquiring certifications, and gaining the skills necessary to lead and educate others. Working in the polar expedition industry, I wish to bring both professional expertise and my unwavering passion to every aspect of my work. From building cross-cultural and bilingual educational resources to influencing broader audiences with the right values and knowledge, I am committed to expanding access to the transformative power of polar exploration.

Polar Horizon reflects my long-term vision: to create an industry that transcends borders, unites people, and serves as a catalyst for global environmental stewardship. The polar regions are not just destinations, they are symbols of our shared humanity and our collective responsibility to protect our planet.

Through Polar Horizon, I aim to inspire a movement that combines education, exploration, and action. By leveraging the entrepreneurial mindset and sustainability-driven innovation of my Shenzhen upbringing, I am dedicated to building a future where the polar regions are central to understanding our interconnected world and shaping a more harmonious relationship between humanity and nature.
